For a checked bag that fails to arrive, start with the airline or its baggage handler. For something left in the terminal, contact airport Lost and Found. For an item left aboard, contact the airline. Separating these three situations helps your first report reach the relevant organisation.

“Lost & Found” can appear on both airline desks and airport services. Do not decide from the item’s size or the desk name alone. Ask who last had custody of it. A small checked bag still needs airline tracing; a large suitcase you collected and then left beside a restaurant is terminal lost property.

AOT Suvarnabhumi’s guidance directs belongings left aboard or not collected at baggage reclaim to the airline, separately from the airport’s service for items handed in. An airport lost-property form should therefore not be your only action for a missing checked bag.

Missing checked bag: record the details before leaving

Check the flight on the belt display and ask whether unloading has finished. If the bag remains missing, ask for your flight’s baggage-service desk while still in reclaim. Show the tag receipt and all flight sectors, including where you last handed over the bag.

Request a reference number, tracking channel and the name of the organisation accepting the report. Clarify whether the document starts baggage tracing or merely records a general enquiry. With multiple airlines, do not guess who will contact whom: ask the desk to identify the report owner and next step.

Give a working contact method and your current accommodation. If you will change city, provide the moving date and ask how delivery or collection will work. Keep relevant receipts, but do not treat the report as a guarantee that every purchase will be reimbursed. This guide does not calculate compensation or legal claim deadlines.

Terminal property: verified contact points

AirportAOT’s contact pointConfirm before travelling to collect
Suvarnabhumi BKKLost and Found, floor 6 behind Row Q in the main terminal; baggage.services@airportthai.co.thActual meeting point, ownership documents and available time
Don Mueang DMKTerminal 2, floor 3 at the T1–T2 interconnection; 02 535 1100; psd_dmk@airportthai.co.thAppointment and property tag, particularly on holidays

Both service pages link to the AOT online lost-property form. If submission fails or you receive no acknowledgement, use the official contact channel and retain your message. Do not send payment-card details or passwords to demonstrate ownership of a phone.

Name a shop, gate or checkpoint and say whether it was before or after security. Mention SAT-1 if relevant. “Bangkok airport” is insufficient because BKK and DMK are different airports. The BKK guide and DMK guide help identify the correct location.

Finding an item and collecting it are different steps

Don Mueang provides information around the clock, but weekend or holiday collection requires an appointment confirmed at least one working day in advance. A Tag Number confirms the appointment; missing it requires a new appointment. Do not buy a ticket back to the airport just because a listing says “24 hours”.

Before making the journey, ask staff to confirm the item matches your description. Ask which documents to bring and what applies if another person collects it. Do not assume international shipping is available or that you may enter a restricted area to retrieve it yourself.

A short report template

  1. Date, flight, airport and connecting itinerary.
  2. Item type, brand, colour, model and distinctive marks.
  3. Last confirmed place and time, separating memory from guesses.
  4. Relevant photograph or baggage tag.
  5. Contact details, current accommodation and moving date.
  6. Reference number, receiving organisation and agreed next action.

Keep the record in your trip planner and put collection transport in your trip budget. If a flight change becomes necessary, explore the route catalogue and check actual availability. Confirm the appointment and office location before buying a new flight.

Frequently asked questions

Is an AOT form alone enough when a checked bag does not arrive?

It should not be your only action. Contact the airline or its baggage handler to record and trace the checked bag.

Who should I contact for a phone left on the aircraft?

Start with the operating airline and provide the date, flight, seat and likely location.

Does Don Mueang’s 24-hour information service mean immediate holiday collection?

No. AOT requires holiday collection appointments to be confirmed at least one working day in advance, with a Tag Number.
